Meet the Advisory Council - Awards Committee ChairpersonName: Laurel Crump SLA Title: Awards Committee Chairperson Education: MLS, U. of Arizona; BA, History, U. of Oregon Institution: DeVry Institute of Technology Job title: Head Librarian Years in librarianship: 13 Why I became a librarian: My mother's family was extremely poor and checking out books from the free public library was a salvation for these book lovers and they passed this love of books on to me. If I weren't a librarian, I'd be a floral designer Why I got involved in SLA/or benefit of being active in SLA: No many librarians where I work and a need to talk the talk and share information, joys and concerns of the profession with others smarter than myself! It's old news, but I love the networking and camaraderie. My role model is (doesn't have to be a librarian!): Sue Brewsaugh (Boeing) For me, a perfect weekend would include: Enjoying my backyard with my husband and dogs and NO CHORE or ERRAND list to do! (It will never happen) Favorite movie: Grand Canyon People would be surprised to know that I am a vegetarian who is from the Northwest, likes beer and baseball and used to be in the medical field in my previous life. |
